Hey Sage,
Right now, you have a thing about calling me. You tell mom you want to call Auntie Karen (even though somehow you reduce my name to two syllables - your mom isn't even sure how you say it, it's so quick). Then you call me, and before the beep (Auntie K is very busy these days) you say "Hi Auntie Karen!" So Mommy tells you to hang on, and then when the beep comes, you won't say anything.
I get these hilarious messages with Mom goading you to say something. "Say Hi!" "Say Hello to Auntie Karen" and then silence from you. You've left about 4 of these so far!
I hope soon that either I answer the phone or you talk anyway. In the meantime, you're the cutest thing ever!
Love,
Auntie K

What Does a Polar Bear Say?

You are 16 months old and you know all your animal sounds. "What does a chicken say?" gets the requisite "Bok, bok" answer and "What does an elephant say?" gets a very cute little "Bwwwwaaaa!" But the best is the answer to "What does a polar bear say?"
Your answer? Night-night. It's pretty darn cute.
You have this book with 6 baby animals and what sounds they say. You do each one emphatically as someone goes through the book with you. You are particularly excited by the parrot, screaming "SQUAWK! SQUAWK!" at the top of your lungs and flinging your arms around. The very last baby animal in the book is the polar bear. Instead of roaring, he finishes up the book with "Night night." So now, you are completely convinced a polar bear says that very thing.
No matter where you are when the list of animals is given to you - you answer everything correctly and answer the cutest little "Night night" for whoever has asked you "What does a polar bear say?"
Your mom says it's too cute to correct, and I agree. You'll forget it soon enough. So I'm posting it up here for you to remember always - when you thought polar bears walked around on the ice yelling NIGHT NIGHT! to the world.
Love you,
Auntie K

A Little Red Torture Chamber
Hey Sage!
Uncle S is visiting with you in Colorado this week, and he sent along this video of you, totally enjoying a sled ride. Not!
You'll love this someday, I promise.

First Visit to Massachusetts
Sageness!
It was so great to see you in Massachusetts this week. Your first visit! You are pretty awesome. Toddling around already at not even 10 months, putting everything under the sun into your mouth, and wanting to eat all kinds of food even though it is so hard for you since you don't have any teeth yet!
We took you to the beach and you loved it. Look how gorgeous you are:
You smiled at me a lot, but wouldn't tolerate being held by anyone except Mommy, Daddy or Nana without howling. Oh well, I can be patient. You'll love me plenty soon enough.
You love to laugh and smile and play. You know a good number of signs and can ask for things that you want or need. You don't sleep so well, but that will come, too.
Thanks for coming to Massachusetts! I'll miss seeing you for your birthday, but am sending a great present, and I'm looking forward to seeing you again at Christmas!
Love you so much,
Auntie K
